Painting
Ajedrez de la vida
1999
- Medium
- Mixed media: acrylic, paper, and photographs on an old metal sign, mounted on wood
- Dimensions
- 50 × 100 cm (19 5/8 × 39 3/8 in.)Artist's comment: On an old metal sign with washed-out letters, I painted two soccer goals, marked by four hollow, burnt trees. Strips of newspaper cuttings mark the limits of the field, and in the center are photos of men sitting, lifting or moving posts. As on a chessboard, where the positions of the valued pieces set the balance of power, so it happens here, as in life. At times the game leads us to a rusted, recycled society
